Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a special type of fatty material called a "Phospholipid". PC is found in egg yolks and soy lecithin as well as in sunflower seed oil. PC forms an important part of every cell's membrane, and thus aids in maintaining membrane fluidity in the cell, which helps with cell to cell communications, which occur primarily at the cell membrane surface where the membrane receptors are. Phosphatidylcholine is a precursor for sphingomyelin, which is an important component of the myelin sheath of every nerve cell. PC is also a precursor for the formation of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. It is for these reasons and a few more, that phosphatidylcholine can be used for patients who have irregular patterns of electrical conduction in the brain. PC wil help to normalize nerve conduction in the brain, and also help to stabilize nerve cells so they don't fire in an uncoordinated fashion. Together with the amino acid taurine, these two supplements can help create a healthy neurologic response.
